Post Which are best CIS inks
Just signed up for this forum and I am sure you experienced folks have some veiws on CIS inks. I just ordered a Lyson Cis for my Epson 1400 and I need to choose an ink set. I am currently considering Lyson's Fotonic inks and Mediastreets. Any thoughts on color, colorfastness or in-system problems would be appreciated.

Lyson have always had a good reputation and in truth I can't comment as I've never played with them seriously. For my money I use Image Specialists ink which is pretty good but I suspect you're after a more experienced photographic type review/etc...

Would recommend looking at the nifty-stuff.com forums as there's a bit more experience in that realm there... and there's other forums like photo-i.co.uk worth a look.

Hope that helps Smile

I can't say anything specifically about the Epson 1400, but I've been using Lyson Fotonic in my Canon S9000 for about six years - first in re-fillable carts and for the past year or so in a cheap-and-cheerful CIS. The colour gamut is excellent and I have found that when printing on the right papers I have had no problems with fading. By "the right papers" I mean a swellable emulsion type like the Ilford Classic Gloss and Pearl. I'm not saying the prints will last as long as pigment types but I've had prints on the wall for five years with no obvious fading.

A word of warning though - the colour rendering of the S9000 Fotonic inks is very different from that of the Canon inks and my first prints were awful! Unbelieveably magenta. It was that experience that sent me down the colour management route and with the right printer profiles rather than the Canon generic ones I now get perfect prints every time.

For what it's worth, my S9000 has never clogged in the six years I've used Lyson ink, and my CIS has not given me any trouble either. Maybe I'm just lucky.....

I would like to thank both you gents for your replies. The info was indeed helpful. I have decided on the Lyson inks and they should be arriving shortly. I definitely agree on the color management issues and plan to get custom profiles when up and running. Will post follow-up then.
