Hey there...

In truth I've been building my own and not really tried any commercial kits so I couldn't tell you for sure... What I've seen on Ebay, etc.. though is that the kits that are out there seem to work ok... They all involve some semblance of chip transfer apart from MIS's (inksupply.com) version which uses original OEM cartridges.

The one thing I've learned is that there's no guarantee it'll work first time but most of the potential problems have now been tackled so if you do hit an issue we can probably help.

Well I buy my ink in bulk from Gemini Colours in Holland as they resell the Image Specialists ink.. Unfortunately they only sell in bulk and the postage is a mite prohibitive. That said I have sourced some smaller quantities of OCP ink from Promax Imaging 01538 722121. OCP is a german ink manufacturer that has a good rep too if you care to do some googling.

Hope that helps.

I have used this system for the last month printing over 50+ photos on my IP4500 (same as the 5200)

It took me about 30 mins to get it installed and working. I later had to adjust the ink tank height raising it 1 1/2 inches about table top height. The inks are a perfect match, I have tested this using various test prints and found no difference. I opted for the 500ml refils since they only cost £19.95 each and also purchased the photo black which is not supplied in the original ink tank.

To date I have had no issues what so ever, other than having to raise the ink tanks 1/ 1/2 iches ( I had the cartridges start to run out before noticing) Since raising the tank this amount everthing is working sweet.. I have had no streaking, banding blockages or more importantly leaks. The kits seems well made and supplied with air filters for each tank. The inks are supposedly from a reputable source German or the USA and filtered for minimum particle size. They also state there UV fade rating is between 5-6, 7 being the maximum so fading should not be an issue, time will tell.

I chose this company because they offer a 6 month warranty and you get to speak to a chap at the end of the phone who seemed more than happy do deal with any questions I had. They also provide silcone washers to obtain a better seal for each individual catridge.

He also mentioned that his supplier has in stock replacement chips for the entire Pixma range which they are shipping end of next month. This will mean I can use the ink level monitor again although this is a minor inconvenience when using a CIS.
