Adding the tank and elevating the printer
You've now completed the hard part... All that remains now is for you to ensure the printer is elevated slightly (I used blocks of wood). This stops the tube from being pinched shut which would result in waste ink backflowing into your printer insides and disaster.
Oh, and you also need a tank for all your ink to go into...
In my example I've used an airtight container (which I've drilled holes into for air to vent out!) and added anther barbed connector so the tube connects easily to the outside.. You don't have to be quite so perfectionist though so almost any waterproof container will do BUT there are a couple of things you must be sure of:
- The container must have an exit hole for air to escape as it's displaced by the ink
- You need to make sure you can see the level of ink in it so you don't forget and it overflows!
- The ink container MUST be placed so that the highest possible ink level is still lower than the printhead
(preferably no higher than 1" from the bottom of the printer itself!)
