This request has been fulfilled and the instructions have now been linked from here:
http://www.continuousink.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4177

This is a specific request for anyone with an Epson 2100/2200 (both same model in different countries) who has attempted or is skilled enough to try modifying their unit to fit a waste ink kit.

I've done some searching and located the service manual but the photos and diagrams provided are too sparse to provide a decent overall picture of what's involved. From first look it seems there's a lot of housing/casing to disassemble to get to the relevant tube and almost certainly a need for drilling a hole for the tubing to reach outside the printer.

In other words this isn't for the faint hearted... Any takers would get a full refund on a waste ink kit in return for the process required (in words and photos).

Thanks in advance.

#2: Epson 2100/2200 waste ink counter reset (manual) procedure Author: MartinLocation: South Yorkshire, UK PostPosted: Fri Aug 08, 2008 11:55 am

This resource describes how to reset the waste ink counter on the Epson 2100/2200 model printers.

EDIT: Unfortunately it appears this page has been taken offline (reason unknown) so this currently is unavailable. I've contacted the site owner/author in the hope they'll make the information available again in the near future.

It's more detailed than most other guides so well worth a look.

#3: EPSON 2100 waste ink solution made easy! Author: nemo PostPosted: Tue Feb 03, 2009 11:56 am

After searching all the posts from the google search and not finding any solution for the waste ink tank for epson 2100 epson 2200 I came with my own solution.
Firstly I dismantled the printer using an epson 2100 service manual I purchased form somebody on the net. It took me 10 minutes.
Instead of replacing the pads I washed them in a hot water with a little bit of dishwasher detergent. After about 2 changes of water the water stayed clean. I dried the pads on a paper kitchen towel, squeezing as much water out as I could. Than used an ordinary needle from a side of the pad to fluff up the pad so it is became as thick as the original one again.(like before washing). Do it slowly so you don't tear it and take your time. Then I dried it on the radiator(thin one) and the thick one I put in a microwave for 10 minutes on the warm setting , checking regularly. It dried just fine. You must fluff it up wet first.

After looking into a printer I came out with an idea of drilling 1 very small hole underneath the printer and I did this right the first time. On that exact spot the silicone tube from the pump inside the printer discharges the ink onto a bottom of the printer and it flows into the surrounding pads. The pad is not on this discharge spot at all. And the tubes is facing downwards like we need it!

Now the clever bit:
I was able to insert a small plastic tube( I used a cut off tube from a regular ball pen above the ink level) from the BOTTOM of the printer into the silicon discharge tube in a few second and let the tube show about 3mm underneath the printer. Then I put a plastic cap where the excess ink will be discharged into. (any other arrangement is now possible, like an extended silicone tube...) After that I software- reset the printer's protection counter to 0.

What is so clever about this? Anybody can drill 1 hole on a right spot and do this simple mod! (ink goes from printers head into a resting pad, then to a pump and normally onto a pads, now OUTSIDE the printer!)
The epson stylus 2100 or epson stylus 2200 doesn't have any sensor in the pads . DON'T take the printer apart , the pads are so big that they could hold maybe a 500ml of ink, maybe more.
Just drill the hole, insert the tube and reset the counter. If there would be too much ink inside it would get out through the hole anyway but it will not probably not happen at all!
Mine had just 2 pads out of about 7 saturated and not fully.

So where is the secret spot to drill?

If there will be any interest I'll take a picture for everybody. Or can help . Let me know!
I would proudly call this an EPSON 2100 NEMO MOD !

LOL... Very Happy .. Sounds good...

To be honest this is also true of Canon Pixma's but as you've guessed the trick is that all important secret sweet spot and if you're not careful you can end up putting the drill through the tube or something else.. Surprised *gulp*.

It would certainly be useful to have any images you've generated from this though and of course attribution will be given in full.. Idea

Thanks to Nemo I've finally been able to get the instructions written up properly and posted on a new site I'm in the process of developing purely for waste ink related topics:

http://www.wasteink.co.uk/waste-ink-mods/epson-2100-wibox-mod/

I'm locking down this thread to avoid any confusion so the new thread for any further discussion is here:
