The CIS ink bottle has the air intake tube that goes into the bottom of the bottle. This is a flow control method used to create a negative pressure to deal with the weight of ink inside the no sponge cartridge. This air intake tube supply air into the ink bottle, but air must pass through the length of the tube to the bottom before it is released into the bottle.

When you see ink at a level higher than the ink inside the bottle. Between the tube and the ink bottle, there is a problem. The ink level in the center tube is not going down. It is either caused by air not going in or ink not going pass this center tube to the bottle. Either way, there is a restricted flow inside the bottle. The fact that the ink level in the bottle is the same as the other, that means ink is flowing out and into the cartridge. This part is working. So I am guessing the problem is inside the bottle. If you take the filter and the refill plug out, the ink level should equalize. If not there is a problem with the cyan bottle.

i did refitting the air intake filter, nothing happens
ill pull the ink out 2morrow and see what happens
stupid thing didnt come with any instructions on how to fill the CIS

There should be two plugs on top of the bottle. The one with the air intake is the vent. The other plug should be removed to ferill the bottle. It appears that there is a blockage between the center tube and the bottle. The bottle might have been glued together too tightly, blocking the air flow into the bottle. Take both plugs out, the ink level should balance out. If not, there is a blockage.

Just to add quickly...

I was suffering from this same issue on an R200 and R300 with 2 different CIS kits installed... In the end a suggestion from Arthur Entlich had me take a look at the one variable I hadn't checked which was the ink I was using (same in both).

Using a fresh batch of the Cyan ink I was able to get it working straight away... Of course I had to drain the cartridge and CIS loop and re-prime and fill the reservoir with the new ink but once that was done it worked just fine.

I later tried diluting the Cyan ink with a small amount of distilled water and ammoniated cleaning fluid and this worked on another printer unit.

Notice the syringe should be at a slight angle to allow air flow. All syringe tips are the same in size. Make sure the one you use is the single tip that will fit into the bottom seal.

Incidentally, you can inject a small amount of cleaning fluid into the cartridge once you have your problem fixed. Inject 3 - 5 ml into each cartridge through the bottom seal by opening the poppet valve. Jus run this until the ink/cleaning fluid mixture is cleared. If you use the printer to print documents, it is not a problem to have a slightly lighter color. If you print photos, you might want to wait until the cleaning fluid run out.

You might be interested in different refilling technique I used on my 890 system when I swopped to MIS dye ink from the original unknown and problematical inks supplied with the CISS. Having cleared out all the old ink and flushed everything with distilled water after disassembling the system, I removed any remaining water by blowing though with a large syringe.

Put everything back together and filled each reservoir with about 60 ml of ink . Then placed the cartridges on the bench with exit ports uppermost, and slightly pressurised each reservoir in turn using a small syringe (for better control) with an airtight adaptor. Once the poppet valve of the corresponding cartridge is carefully depressed, ink will flow from the pressurised reservoir into the cartridge. If this is done slowly and carefully, the flow can be controlled and stopped instantaneously by releasing the poppet valve when the cartridge is about to overflow. This leaves just a little air in the cartridge, which is supposed to reduce the effects of ink inertia during transfer from reservoir to cartridge.

It took about 5 mins to recharge all six colours, then back into the printer, two cleaning cycles, and a perfect nozzle pattern straight away. No mess, no syringes to be washed out and dried. No inky fingers!!

Ran a couple of purge pages to clear any air bubbles and I will wait until I have used a full cartridge worth of ink before I send off a couple of reference prints to get an ICC profile done by "The Dot Foundry". This will ensure that any slightly diluted ink (by residual moisture in the cartridges) will be used up, and the colour profile will be as accurate as possible.
