Epson 1280/1290
Graphical guide on how to modify the Epson 1280/1290 A3 printer with a waste ink tank
Ink Republic have provided their own guide on the 1280/1290 which is pretty comprehensive but definitely not for the faint hearted.

EDIT: The guide from Piedmont Digital Graphics has been lost when their site was taken down. The link has ben left on the off chance that the information is provided again in the future.

Resetting the printer without using the SSC utility is possible following this guide:
http://inksupply.helpserve.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=8
The key part you need is this:
Quote:Turn the power on while pressing the maintenance and roll paper switches simultaneously. This switches the printer to "special setting" mode.
While the power and Error LEDs are blinking (you have 3 seconds), press the Roll Paper Switch for 10 seconds
This will reset the ink overflow (waste ink) counter in the EEPROM (printer memory).
